What we do

The Worshipful Company of Plaisterers was originally formed as a trade guild of the City of London to regulate the quality of plastering in the City and to safeguard the welfare and interests of plasterers. Today, charitable activities and support for the craft of plastering through annual awards and training bursaries are the two cornerstones of its work.

The Plaisterers was one of the original eight Companies who conceived the founding of the City & Guilds of London Institute.

education and training

The Company is dedicated to continuously support education and training in the plastering trade, and remains in close contact with the British
plastering industry.

The Company encourages excellence in all aspects of plastering. It awards trophies
and prizes
to plastering colleges, and in 1969, inaugurated the Plaisterers' Trophy. The Competition is now run by the Federation of Plastering & Drywall Contractors, and in
2009 three new Trophies were awarded to the companies judged to have carried out the best solid plastering, fibrous plastering and GRG (Glass Reinforced Gypsum) and drylining contracts in the
country each year.

Register of Associates

Following the disbanding of the City & Guilds Craft Certificate examinations and the introduction of the NVQ system in the early 1990s, it has become very difficult to clearly identify fully trained practically competent plasterers solely from their paper qualifications.

In order to maintain a record of fully trained, skilled plasterers, the Company has established
the category of Associate to the Worshipful Company of Plaisterers.

Charitable Trust

Over and above the education and training projects, the Company’s Charitable Trust also supports Liverymen and Freemen of the Company in need and their widows and dependents together with but also other charitable causes including the provision
for bursaries.

Both Peterborough and St Paul’s Cathedrals are the recipients of annual bursaries to assist with the education of a chorister.
The Humber bursary is awarded annually to a deserving post-graduate student at the Guildhall School of Music.

Plaisterers’ Hall also plays host not only to the Company’s social occasions, but also a number of charitable fund-raising events, other Livery Company dinners and commercial lettings.
